Phone cases collect fingerprints, dust and everyday grime. Regular gentle cleaning keeps a printed case looking fresh and prevents grit from building up between the case and your iPhone.
What you need
- A soft microfibre cloth
- Lukewarm water
- A small amount of mild washing-up liquid
- A soft toothbrush or cotton bud for corners
Avoid bleach, abrasive powders, acetone, nail-polish remover and strong alcohol-based cleaners. These can dull a gloss finish, weaken plastics or damage printed artwork.
1. Remove the case from your phone
Never clean the case while it is attached. Switch off your iPhone, remove the case carefully and keep the phone away from water.
2. Wipe away loose dust
Use a dry microfibre cloth to remove dust from the inside and outside. Pay attention to the camera opening, button covers and charging-port area.
3. Clean gently with soapy water
Dampen the cloth with lukewarm water and a drop of mild washing-up liquid. Wipe the case without soaking it. Use a soft toothbrush or cotton bud around small openings, applying minimal pressure to printed areas.
4. Rinse the cloth and wipe again
Use a clean damp cloth to remove soap residue. Do not put the case in a dishwasher or washing machine, and avoid prolonged soaking unless the manufacturer specifically says it is safe.
5. Dry completely
Pat the case dry and leave it in a ventilated place until every surface and opening is fully dry. Do not use a hairdryer, radiator or direct high heat because heat can warp the case.
How often should you clean it?
A quick weekly wipe is suitable for most people. Clean it sooner after exposure to makeup, food, sand or dirt. Removing the case periodically also lets you clear particles that could rub against the phone.
When should you replace a case?
Replace it if the structure is cracked, the edges no longer grip securely or the case has warped. Cosmetic wear alone may not affect protection, but structural damage can reduce fit and impact resistance.
